Our Home Mission Outreach Ministry enables members to use their time and talents as we work with faith-based communities in Eastern Kentucky and locally to serve those in need. In this ministry of presence, we strive to reflect God’s love and mercy through service.
We welcome help from adults (18 yrs or older) interested in working with underserved and needy families in Eastern Kentucky and in the diocese of Harrisburg. Trips to Kentucky are usually 5-7 days. Projects in our area are shorter in duration. We plan two trips to Kentucky each year, traditionally in May and September. Shorter trips to deliver donations are scheduled as needed.
During the winter months our Home Mission Outreach group partners with Christian Churches United to provide volunteer coverage at the Winter Overnight Safe Haven (WOSH) in Harrisburg. The shelter provides a warm, safe place for homeless men to sleep during in the winter months from December through March. Two adults (at least one male) are needed to arrive at 7:30 PM each night to welcome guests, offer refreshments and in the morning oversee wake-up and breakdown of sleeping area. Professional staff members are present as guests arrive and at an adjoining area through the night if help is needed. Orientation and a tour of this clean, modern facility will be available. We invite parishioners, especially members of other parish organizations, to consider giving one night to offer a safe haven to others during the winter.
