Tenebrae, known as a service of darkness, is a unique and special time of prayer in the calendar of the Roman Catholic Church. The service contains seven readings, with musical reflections and hymns provided after each reading. Following each hymn or song, a candle is extinguished, and a set of lights in the church is turned off. At the end of the final reading, the Paschal candle is removed from our midst, signifying the burial of our Lord in the tomb. The darkness provides a "stark visual that Our Lord is slowly but surely left alone in the darkness of the world, fraught with sin." (Brent Klaske, Angelus Press) And we grieve. Please join us!
